Calligraphy Art Studio

Always having a bent toward creativity, in the 80s Margaret designed and painted needlepoint canvases which earned her awards at the State Fair of Texas several years running. During this time, Margaret first studied calligraphy under Suzie-Melissa Cherry, Dallas, TX.

In 2002, Margaret renewed her interest in calligraphy and began offering hand-lettering services through her company, Calligraphy Art Studio. As part of her services, Margaret offers personalized cards and/or books, resolutions for an individual’s retirement commeration, marriage certificates including Ketubah Texts (Jewish marriage contracts).

Margaret loves creating illuminated letters for Bible verses, sayings, baby announcements, and wedding initials using gouache watercolors and dry pigments. A former student of Wallace Hughes, a well-known, popular watercolor artist who shows and sells his works at art shows throughout Texas, Southwest, Europe, including Russia, Margaret offers water color flora, backgrounds, and scenes for sayings, poems, baby announcements, and more.

An artist and writer at heart, but somewhat of a “late bloomer,” Margaret is continually developing her watercolor talents to combine them with calligraphy that others can enjoy.

A member of Kaligrafos (Dallas Calligraphy Society), Margaret completed a year-long calligraphy class in December 2007 with Reggie Ezell, Master Scribe from Chicago, IL and Textured Letters taught by Barbara Close, Calligrapher, Santa Ana, CA.

Some of Margaret’s works will be exhibited this summer at Artist Showplace, 15615 Coit Road, Dallas, TX (June) and the Courtyard Gallery (July), 1509 Avenue H, Plano, TX

Her love of her home state, Lousisiana, influences Margaret’s studies and paintings of Lousiaiana swamps, birds and flowers, and Cajun inflluences of her growing up years.
