Jonathan Thomson

Jonathan was born in Greenock, Scotland in 1984 and started playing the Cornet in a local Brass Band at the age of six.

When he was ten he was accepted in the the Junior School of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama on Trumpet and Piano, Where he later studied full-time with a scholarship, gaining a BMUS Honors degree, studying with Peter Franks and John Gracie.
During his undergraduate studies Jonathan spent a year studying at the Eastman School of Music in New York under Professor James Thompson, and a month of study at the Freiburg Hochshule Fur Musik in Germany with Professor Anthony Plog.
Jonathan Recently graduated with a Masters degree fron the Royal Northern College of Music in Mancester where his teachers were John Miller and Jamie Prophet.

Jonathan is in demand as an orchestral player, Chamber Musician, soloist and Musician-actor, playing with orchestras such as The Orchestra of Opera North, The BBC Philharmonic and Scottish Opera.
Recently Jonathan was concerto soloist at the Glasgow Royal Concerthall with the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra. As a chamber musician his quintet, North Star Brass was a finalist in the Philip Jones Brass prize in 2007.

Recent masterclasses Jonathan has performed in were with Allen Vizzutti, Hakan Hardenberger, Mark Gould, Clay Jenkins and Ramond Mase.

Jonathan also enjoys playing Jazz music and playing in musicals and teaching his trumpet students.

Jonathan Became a Stomvi Artist in 2005 and Plays on Stomvi Bb and C trumpets and Flugelhorn.

Jonathan is a Trumpet Player and in demand as an orchestral player, Chamber Musician, soloist and Musician-actor.
