Bridesmaid's Dress
Choosing the right bridesmaid's dress starts with proportion. A dress may look gorgeous on the model in the photo, but it may not look good on all of your bridesmaids if the lines are wrong for her proportions.Times are changing and not every bride wants to force her bridesmaids to wear an expensive dress they will only wear once and then be doomed to ten years in the back of the closet until it finally is sent to the local thrift store.
It is possible to choose different gowns for your bridesmaids that are a similar enough style to your dress, but also are guaranteed to suit a range of body features and tastes.
If you simply must have them in the same dress the key to this is choosing a style to suit the largest size among them. Keep it simple.
Choose shades from a range of soft hues. There is a trend toward different styles in one shade or different shades in one style. It is unlikely anyone will notice the styles of dresses are different. The only thing they will know is how lovely they looked. Best of all your bridesmaids will love their dresses and love you for choosing them.
Many styles also can camouflage less than perfect features. Large hips can be hidden with an A-line gown. It will give height and reduce width making the wearer look taller and slimmer. Another option would be a hollow waist that begins an inch and a half below the natural waist, camouflaging the heaviest part.A thick waist can be minimized by a princess waist, just make sure the fullness of the dress starts below her thick part. Heavy thighs are easy to conceal beneath a full skirt, but stay away from any style that is straight or narrow. The same advice applies for a full derriere. Remember to draw attention away from flaws and concentrate on a beautiful neckline instead.
If your dress is a original vintage or historical reproduction you should get some help as to what particular necklines, waistlines and other features were fashionable in that time period so you know what you are looking for. You do not need to get period dresses for your bridesmaids, there are plenty of dresses available that duplicate the necklines and waistlines of times past.
